I know, I know ! How utterly predictable, that I would come out of hiding when there is a super hyped up beauty launch with an absolute super star as its face and creative mind, meet Fenty Beauty by Rihanna ! I know ! *I am so sorry for abandoning this blog for two weeks* I moved houses in the past two weeks so it has been pretty hectic yet exciting ! But who wants to hear about that ?! *tell me if you do though*
I have been stalking and keeping my eyes out for this launch from when it was announced, and girl have you seen the launch party ?! Rihanna in that gorgeous yellow dress and that highlight ? I literally was gawking at that beauty ! So I scrambled to wake up early and I was at Sephora at 9.45 AM. Sephora opens at 10 AM. Yes, I was that girl.
Jokes aside, for a new brand line launch, Riri launched 40(!) foundation shades, an array of gorgeous highlighters, concealers and contour sticks, brushes, blotting products and a lip gloss ! Now that is how you make an entrance. Other make up brands, please take notes on product line done right in terms of options and inclusivity. She is already in the process of adding more products to the range. Also, can we have a moment for the packaging ? Wowza ! Kudos girl !
Now, lets take a look at the products. Lets start with the highlighters that stole my heart. These are the Killawatt Freestyle Highlighters (34$). There are four duos(2*0.12 oz), featuring a day time subtle sheen and an evening more intense highlight. And two standalone highlighters(0.28 oz), one for lighter skinned beauties and one for darker skinned lovelies, but don’t let that stop you from using these how ever you want to. The texture of these is beautiful, soft and buttery !
I got the show stopper, that Riri wore to the launch party, Trophy Wife. It is an intense gold. Very very intense. It has sparkles in it, so if you want that POW! glow, this definitely is it. I love it sheered out, but what I am really excited is to use it as an eyeshadow. It is a dream !
I also got two duos, the more lighter yet stunning Mean Money/Hu$tla Baby and the darker Ginger Binge/Moscow Mule. Mean Money/Hu$tla Baby is a gorgeous champagne duo, with the more intense highlight almost being duo chrome reflecting peach. It is going to be my go to this autumn/winter, I can feel it ! Ginger Binge/Moscow Mule is a beautiful copper stunner. It is so SO pretty. I took this as a blush topper, and it is so gorgeous !
I am so super impressed by the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation (34$, 1.08 oz). It is true to its name, it is a soft matte foundation with a medium to buildable finish. Now, I am not too into matte finish but this foundation is really good, not too matte. It blurs your pores, and makes your skin look great. And it can be built up to a full, full coverage if that is what you desire. The only downside is that it dries down quite quickly, so you need to work very fast.
They released 40 shades at one go, so it can get a bit confusing matching your shade, I would suggest you go in store and see what shade/tone would be a good fit for you.
I am in the shade 240, I initially picked up shade 270 but quickly realized that it was a bit dark. So I went back and got the shade 240. I wear shade 6 in Armani Luminous Silk for comparison. Now, I did see reviews that said that the foundation oxidizes, but I personally did not have this experience. This is a huge thumbs up from me !
The other face products I got were the Match Stix Trio in Medium (54$, 3 * 0.25 oz). Now, on Sephora these are pre-made trios but on the Fenty Beauty website, you can customize your shades. As individuals these are 25$ a piece, but as a trio, they retail for 54$. I chose the trio in Medium which has Bamboo (concealer), Mocha (contour)and Trippin (highlighter). These are magnetic, how cool is that ! They stick to each other, which makes it easy to carry around in your purse !
These are cream to powder finish and are gorgeous on the skin. I am not a huge cream contour person but I really liked these a lot. Trippin (swatched above with the other highlighters) is a stunning gold peach shimmer (described as a golden glazed apricot), which is not too much , just the right amount to make your skin glisten.
Please excuse my swatches, as you can see my arms are much more tanned than my face, as is evident by my foundation swatches. This was also not a particularly nice day for swatching but I went with it !
The next things I got are the Invisimatte Blotting Powder (32$, 0.3 oz) and the Portable Highlighter Brush 140 (24$). The Invisimatte Blotting Powder, is a white powder, and it is supposed to just blend into you skin, and not show as a white cast, yet blot your skin and make it look flawless. This is a universal shade for all skin tones. This powder was something else, it made my skin look airbrushed. So smooth and beautiful. It was light and did not make my makeup look cakey.
The Portable Highlighter Brush is so tiny and cute, and it is a good brush but I probably could have skipped it. The line did release with full size brushes, but I did not pick them up.
Finally, the only lip product launched with this line currently is the Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer in Fenty Glow (18$, 0.30 oz). This is a beautiful rosy shimmer gloss, it has huge wand. This shade is supposed to be universally flattering among all skin tones and it is very very beautiful.
This shade is nothing unique though, you can find a similar shade in most brands. The texture is initially a bit thick but when you rub your lips, there is no sticky feeling and it feels good. As for any gloss, it does not stay on too long. The packaging though, is stunning.
Final thoughts, I think for an initial launch, it is a well thought out and curated line. It definitely feels like great quality consistently on board. It would majorly depend on whether you are a fan of the finish and texture of the products.
As for me, a majority of what I bought are going to be staples, which is great. I am eyeing the full size brushes next since they are getting great reviews and they do feel to be made of excellent quality. Did you pick anything up from the line ?
