There are so many new releases by the day, but here is my recent featured eyeshadow edit with Dior, Marc Jacobs Beauty and Kat Von D Beauty. I have my thoughts and swatches for all three palettes today ! Yes, a blog post after eons ! I know, but excuse me because I was with family and just wanted to enjoy my time home. But, I am back !
Up first is the obviously the most expensive one, Dior ‘5 Couleurs Couture’ Eyeshadow Palette in 657 Expose (62$). It is a gorgeous mix of gold greens and brown ! It is quite a departure from the Dior palettes that I had and used in my college, this is such a buttery palette. The eyeshadows are very smooth, and look beautiful swatched or on the eyes. I am particularly taken with the peachy gold at the top left corner, it is a stunner. The color selection truly opens up the eyes beautifully, bringing light to your eyes.
I know it looks very shimmery in my swatches, but it can be toned down and if you prefer a more toned down look for work, it can certainly be paired with a few mattes for a more work appropriate look. Personally, I love wearing these eyeshadows for both work related things as well as for more casual days. The only downside is there are no true mattes here, even the brown has slight shimmers, though not obvious on the eyes. This palette gets a huge thumbs up from me ! Gorgeous !
Marc Jacobs Beauty recently relaunched their eyeshadow palettes. While they look the same, the shades are quite different from the original release. I have actually never tried his original style eye con 7 pan palettes, but did try his holiday palette which is huge but really really awesome. I had high hopes for his re-release and these do no disappoint. I already reviewed Glambition and I loved it quite a lot which is why I picked up Marc Jacobs Beauty Eye-Conic Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palette in Scandalust (49$).
Look at these colors ! They speak to me. This palette has rich, jewel hues. The eyeshadows are very very buttery, the shimmer shades are quite powdery and have a lot of fallout. But they swatch and go on the eyes beautifully. The mattes shades also have a lot of fallout, but they are pressed in a bit more firmly than the shimmer shades. This palette has everything from a brow bone highlight to a gorgeous crease color. It is bold and lives up to its name !
Lastly, I recently also hauled the Kat Von D Shade and Light Glimmer Eye Contour Palette (49$). the price for this is a serious ouch, I can’t believe it is up there with luxe brands such as Marc Jacobs Beauty. But that aside, this palette is supposed to be the sister palette for the original Shade and Light palette, which consisted purely of matte shades. I don’t have that but I was very intrigued by this palette, because, well I love my glitters and shimmers !
There are four formulas in this that Kat Von D calls:
- Base Shades are soft satin shimmers: Porcelain, Dusk and Dune
- Contour Shades are smooth metallics: Copper, Cinder, Rust
- Define Shades are glitters: Bronze, Onyx, Jasper
- Topcoat Shades are chunky glitters: Sterling, Glacier and Quartz
This palette is gorgeous on the eyes. I had weddings to attend in India and this palette never did me wrong once ! That said, this might be too much for someone who does not like working with glitters or prefers a more subdued shimmer look. The chunky glitters in the palette remind me of the glitters in Tom Ford or Charlotte Tilbury palettes, except Kat Von D palette has more base color payoff. I personally, would recommend this for parties or a really sultry and sexy look. Or if you love glitters like moi. I love all the textures and finishes and rate this very high in my collection !
The swatches do NOT do these palettes justice, in my opinion. Also, my arm tans quite bit more than my face, so these swatches are extremely tanned hands ! Have you tried any of these ? Which one is your favorite ? Let me know what you think !
